On February 11th, 2025, Burbank residents gathered outside the Tesla service center to protest Elon Musk, Donald Trump, and cuts by Musk's Department of Government Efficiency. Musk's controversial role in the 2024 U.S. presidential election fueled skepticism about his political intentions. Protesters held signs accusing Musk and Trump of "fascism, corruption, and incompetence." Konstantine Anthony, former Burbank mayor and current city council member, criticized Musk's unchecked authority: "If you're not in an elected position, you must be confirmed by the Senate... Mr. Musk has not been." Tammy Silver, organizer of the Tesla Takedown protest and a Pasadena activist, condemned Musk's actions: "Our country is not Elon Musk's sandbox... I want to bring down Tesla's stock valuation." Silver argued reducing Tesla's value was essential to limiting Musk's power: "He's using his money to destroy our democracy." Tesla reported a 13% drop in Q1 2025 deliveries, with sales in Europe and China down 40% and 22%. Growing competition from China's BYD challenges Tesla's dominance, as public sentiment and protests cast doubt on its future.
